注文の多い料理店 read-through notes — the restaurant's 'rules' get funnier/creepier the more you notice

注文の多い料理店 by 宮沢賢治 — the two hunters keep obeying increasingly bizarre instructions posted at each door (salt yourself, rub in the cream, etc.) without questioning why a restaurant would demand THIS much prep from a customer. Rereading it, the dramatic irony (we realize before they do that they're the ones being 'ordered', not the ones ordering) is really well built through the repeated door-sign structure. Recommending this one for anyone who wants a shorter, punchier read than 羅生門.
